The number of chords that you can play are limited with the violin because there are only four strings, This means you can only play four tone chords. There are five different versions of each chord and the follow the (CAGED) theory... The notes shown with dots in the middle are the naming note of the shape.

All of the basic 'major shapes' or 'minor shapes' will be used three times in each key, That is not the case with suspended and extended chords. Some of the shapes do not work on certain positions, These are commonly called 'dominant' which referred to a 'shape' that only worked on the V. position of a key.
