Music Theory

The theory of music has been in existence for a couple thousand years or more, Just the word 'theory' is intimidating to some people - Learning theory has several advantages, The only disadvantage is the time it takes to learn it. Some of the advantages of learning theory are that you pick up songs much faster and also remember how to play them longer, Playing guitar and playing a game have lots of similaritys...

When you first play a game you don't really know what to do, Same deal with the guitar or any other instrument - Over a period of time you keep getting better and better. I don't play games but I know that alot of people are into 'cheat codes', Theory is nothing more than the cheat code of music...

When pac-man came out, There were two ways you could play pac-man - You could play (By ear) which is just trying to get away from the ghost or (By theory) which is using the cheat maps, These maps told you the exact path to go and you would not get eaten - If you went off the map even for a second or made a wrong turn then the map wouldn't work anymore and then you were on your own, Playing pac-man without the maps was fun but playing them with them was even funner...

The cheat map players would appear to have mastered the art of dodging the ghost and the others would appear not so skilled and struggle to not get eaten. This is the same in the world of music - Music Theory is nothing more than a cheat map for musicians, Why play blindly and get eaten alot when you can learn the cheat maps and really accelerate your playing ability...

Even if you learn theory you still have to practice, Games like asteroids and defenders didn't have cheat maps - These were games you just had to play over and over to get better, The physical part of playing an instrument is the exact same way. If you mastered the theory of guitar without even touching a guitar then you would understand where to put your fingers but actually playing them on the guitar take getting used to. Over the years we have developed some theorys of our own, We have tried to simplify the understanding of theory for years...
