Transcriptions

I developed this section because I know the impact that free transcriptions have on the field of music as a whole, I also grew up on the guitar magazines and know that having the tablature transcription of a song goes a long way...

If you have frequented tablature websites then you may or may not know that most of them are just short of shutdown, There are very few tablature sites that are still in operation, Most are still cramming ads at you until you get to the "Sorry but the MPA sent us a letter blah blah blah" part...

I personally know that just having the transcription does not mean you are going to be playing the song anytime soon, You still have to have the 'song' in your head to play it which can take a considerable amount of time...

As a corporation I do have to follow federal law concerning 'copyright' laws and the good news is that we are, The transcriptions 'Guitarweek' hosts' fall well within the copyright laws and its not just some loophole, It's my belief that the 'artist' of a song benefits tremendously from people learning how to play their songs and 'free' transcriptions have a positive financial effect for the original artist and the persons consuming the transcriptions...

It's probably getting close to a couple hundred thousand dollars of labor and tens of thousands of dollars that I've spent on this 'organization' and I'm not afraid to put it all on the line for the cause, Furthermore by putting any financial burden on anyone wanting to view the transcriptions that are hosted on our site would be violating the copyright laws so they are viewable by all unconditionally...

As a corporation we support and encourage free transcriptions for several reasons...

If you have the general details of a song such as the key, chords used, scales used, words and the chord progression then you can go on to learn the song, This is of course after you learn the song in your head meaning you can hum out the song in your head...

The correct lyrics of a song is important because most times the words hold clues to the rhythmic patterns used in the song, Jotting out the words to an unfamiliar songs can take hours...

The right chords to play are important too because just saying "G major" is not enough seeing that there are hundreds of "G majors", If you don't know the right chords then it may not sound right and you may end up just not playing it (or covering it on your own album)...

Having the lyrics of a song posted online are beneficial to the original artist because someone may hear a song on the radio and then try to find out what the song is so they can buy it, The transcription of a song is limited to just the people wanting to perform them which is a very small proportion of the people that actually buy the song...
