The power chord shape is used one the major and minor positions, The diminished position (VII.) is the only chord that cannot be 'powered'. When you compare a major chord with a minor chord then you will find that the 1st and 5th are the same, Each of the shapes (except the VII.) can be played on the I. - II. - III. - IV. - V. and VI. positions of a key. The I. ----- VI. means all of them except the VII.

The note with the 'white dot' is the naming-root tone, Remember that each shape (with exception to the VII.) will be used six times for each key... A Power Chord can be played on the Major or Minor chord positions.
