These chords are based entirely on the shape that is created by the first position C major chord, Some shapes are used for all three 'major' chords and some are just used for one or two. These 'variations' are most commonly referred to as 'dominant' chords - The major shapes are closely or directly relative to the Minor Shapes C A G E D

These notes are not named C - the note with the 'white dot' is the naming-root tone, These shapes also will be used three times for each key, or once for each major tone (for the Key of C it would be C F G). A common shape based chord are 'dominant chords'...
