Moving the scales around on the neck of the guitar is easy, If you know the key of C in the first position of the guitar then you are ready to move it around, If you can play the Key of C then you can play any of the other keys...
The first step is to start using your (Index, Ring and Pinky) fingers to play the C major scale in the first position, You can play the C major scale using your first three fingers where your pinky just sits around, Now you must learn to play the scale with your last three fingers where your first finger does nothing...
Learn to play the scales you normally play without using your
first finger (the second diagram)...

After you learn to play the first position pattern of the C major scale (key of C) with your last three fingers then can 'barre' the second fret and then play the same pattern you play for the Key of C...
Your finger acts as a dynamic capo that you can move around at will, This is where knowing the natural notes on the guitar comes in handy, Our video shows the "C major scale" moving to the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th frets... Moving Scales 7.96 Mb...
C major scale (shape) in the open position (Key of C)...

C major scale (shape) at the 2nd fret (Key of D)...

C major scale (shape) at the 4th fret (Key of E)...

C major scale (shape) at the 5th fret (Key of F)...

If you move the same scale shape up to the 7th fret then it becomes the Key of G...
We only use the bottom three strings so you can get the idea, This is the true key to mastering the scales (or at least truly understanding them), This idea applies to any other 'scales'...
If you play a 'buttermilk' scale in 'C' and then move the entire scale pattern up >> 2 frets then the "C buttermilk" scale becomes a "D buttermilk" scale... If you play just a "C" tone and move it up >> 2 frets then the "C" tone becomes a "D" tone...
