Progressions

    A Progression is just the specific ordering of chords, You can have song that uses C F G and the progression could be something like C G F C F C G - Its not what chords you use but how you use them... In the Key of C we are only going to use all three 'major' chords which happen to be "C major", "F major" and "G major", There are probably millions of variations you can come up with using these three chords. Even though there are only three chords you can use them over, You can have a really short progression (C F G) or you can have a long one (C G F C F C G)...

    This example progression uses (C - F - C - G - C - F - C - G - C) OR specifically (I.- IV. - I. - V - I. - IV. - I. - V. - I.) and then repeats itself, When you use roman numerals then you can easily transpose it to the other keys. How you strum (or fingerpick) this 'progression' is not that important, The easiest way is to just strum the chord one time per beat which means you will be playing the 'three' major chords 32 times to make one loop of this progression...

    No matter how you 'strum' this progression you will find that if you strum the exact same way for all 12 keys then that 'progression' will sound somewhat similar, The one strum per beat is probably the best way to play this for all the different keys... You can make a 'random progression' by picking a key and then picking some chords, Our random progression page shows a different random progression every time you visit the page...
