Piano Chords

If your Piano is in tune - You can instantly play some Beautiful Chords right NOW! The Key of C is the easiest Key to play in on the Piano. The Pianos WHITE keys are what make up the Key of C. If you just randomly play on the white keys - You are playing "Something" in the Key of C The Key of C uses the notes (C D E F G A B) - All 12 Keys will utilize all 7 of the "Letters" A through G and they only use one of each. The Lesson on Keys Brilliantly shows you how the Keys change using all seven Letters.

Now were going to show you how to easily play All seven of the Basic Chords in the Key of C - learning from C and then learning how to change to the next key is idea.

Using JUST the WHITE keys on your piano - Pick ANY note and play it with the Next two notes Either way using the pattern "Every Other ONE" - Look at the Diagram!

These are the Seven basic chords in the "Key of C" - a monkey could play these chords so you shouldn't have to struggle too much. Is it really that simple - Yes it is. When you play Three WHITE keys that are "Every other ONE" from each other, then you are playing a chord!

The Blue Chords are just showing you the Octaves of the Basic Three note Chord - ALL basic chords just have three notes - So you can play C major Chords with three fingers and one hand, You can play two different chords at the same time (unless your the drummer from Def Leopard or you just have one arm)
When you play all of the Chords above - you play three Types of Chords (Major, Minor, Diminished)  The First Note of the Three Note chord is the Letter of the Chord - The Type of Chord is determined by the Key that you are in.  In the Key of C - here is the Types of Chords that you are playing in the Key of C

C Major   (C E G)
D Minor
(D F A)
E Minor
(E G B)
F Major
(F A C)
G Major
(G B D)
A Minor
(A C E)
B Diminished
(B D F)

Any time you play in the Key of C - you will use the Chords above - each Basic Chord can be extended by ONE additional Note to each basic chord which makes up the three extensions (7ths - 9ths - 11ths)  This is mathematically cool and can be seen in the Chord building lesson and the extensions lesson. Basically - a key uses only 7 notes, The basic chord uses 3 of those seven note which leave 4 notes (those 4 are all used for the extensions)

To make some fatter sounding basic Chords - Play the basic three finger chord with your right hand and play the First note of the Three note pattern in Octaves - check out the diagram!

Most of the Full Chords (Shown in Red) are played with the right hand - The Left hand usually does not have to play alot of notes at the same time.
