Phrygian

The Phryigian mode is probably the first 'mode' you should learn for a couple reasons, In the Key of C it is simply 'E F G A B C D E' and you can play two "E Phrygian" modes while staying on the first three frets...

The first 'E Phrygian' mode in the key of C...

The second 'E Phrygian' mode in the key of C...

We can't say enough that you should know the 'major scale' as a whole before dabbling with the modes, When you stack the two modes shown above together then you have the 'first position' C major scale...

The first two 'E Phrygian' modes in the `Key of C` put together...

If you have done the core lessons on learning the notes then you should have a good grasp on the 'Key of C' at least for all six strings upto the 3rd fret, You can play all of the modes in the key of C if you know that much which can be seen when you stack the first three 'E Phrygian' modes together...

The above diagram shows every unique tone in the Key of C up to the 12th fret for all six strings, Only the very last 'F and G' are other tones that are not duplicates. Any of the modes will show every tone from whatever key you are in so you should know the entire 12 fret pattern of the Key of C, Over a period of time you will see that the modes are just the keys playing leapfrog...
