Rhythm is harder to explain than alot
of the lessons here at Guitarweek. Here we have animated what are the four Main
Rhythm patterns. The First one is the 1/4 note - the Second is the 1/8 Notes
- the third is Triplets and the fourth is 1/16 Notes.
The best timing to work with for learning is
60 Beats Per Minute, The beats per minute
is what you actually tap your feet to. The rhythm of words have different patterns
and If you read anything, you can identify the rhythm pattern by using one of
the four examples above.
| Quarter notes at 60bpm is one note every second | ![]() |
| Eighth notes at 60bpm is two notes every second | ![]() |
| Triplet notes at 60bpm is three notes every second | ![]() |
| Sixteenth notes at 60bpm is four notes every second | ![]() |
A beat can be referenced as a word - If you say any word, it will be broken into one or more syllables,
The word "What" would use a quarter notes
The word "Butter" would use an eighth notes
The word "Envelope" would use a triplet notes
The word "Amplifier" would use sixteenth notes
The timing of the song determines how "Words" you say each minute - the "words" referred to here is more commonly the "Beat" of a song. The "Time Signature" (a fraction 2/4, 3/4, 4/4) has nothing to do with how many words you say a minute - it refers to how many words you say each measure
we are still working on this lesson.......
