Standard Notation - Part Three

We guess its easy to write in Standard notation - once you put the proper number of Flats (#) or Sharps (b) at the beginning then the rest is downhill. The bad part is that on the guitar, you have to use both The Treble Clef and the Bass Clef for the Guitar.

The Chord's on the guitar use anywhere from 3-6 notes, and each Basic Chord will use 4 or 5 SHAPES. And when your playing a solo then using Standard notation Sucks because of the positioning dilemmas - We could go on and on about why you should just start learning tablature but Schools are anal about this so we will try to add as much as possible!

The Major Chord has 5 Shapes that is uses when its not extended to a 7th, 9th or 11th. When you see the Major Chord in Standard notation - the 5 shapes will look different but you will see at least 3 of the notes lined up in the Spaces or the Lines:

We will analyze the "G Major"  - All of the Major chord will use ALL FIVE SHAPES and regardless of which one you use they will all look the Same:

The Imaginary MIDDLE line is the "C" that is on the 2nd string at the third fret (the second biggest string). If you writing something that is Higher on the neck and uses the "8va" - then the Middle line would be the next highest "C" which is on the 5th string at the first fret.

The A Major shown below is the G Major moved up 2 frets, The first Shape (G Major) will look like this:

NOTE: We forgot to tell you that when have to use the notes that are higher up on the Fret board, you have to use the phrase "8va" which means one octave higher than written or one octave lower than written. Standard is not efficient in many ways for the guitar - That's why there's tab.

STANDARD 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5
