Practicing

Practicing is the only way that you can achieve top status in playing live and understanding Guitar Theory! The Good thing about this is that you don't have to even have your Guitar with you, This is a bold concept - but absolutely true. Playing Guitar is about 20% Physical and 80% mental - Yes that means that you can practice playing 80% of the time without even having your guitar with you. On a plane, school, at work, anywhere you want just about. We have created diagrams that you can use with their instructions. You have to be able to play in your head if you want to play.

When you get a job, (Lets saying running a 50 ton press which of course sucks), you're going to naturally suck at running this press. You could mess the press up, cut off an arm or even kill yourself. The physical part isn't that hard, but to be able to use the press and not mess stuff up will take time for just about anyone. This applies to playing guitar too - everyone sucks when they first start...

You will get better, just realize that Learning Guitar is just like a job and you have to work at it. The more you practice, The better you will be.

Practicing Guidelines

If you cannot play Guitar very good - Chances are that you need to Practice more often. How much you practice should correlate with your goals. Here's a Goal Line that's realistic:

Playing one hour a Week - at this rate you should have, in one year,  a good understanding of theory and be able to play all of the chords, Move them around, and know the major and pentatonic (one major scale and one pentatonic scale)

Playing one hour a Day -  This rate will make you, in about a Year,  pretty impressive in front of your friends and you should know understand most of theory, and be able to play all of the chords and all of the major and pentatonic scales.  Plus you should be able to learn whole songs be ear at a rate of playing one song well per month.

You learn one song at a time, you must be realistic about your learning capabilities. Most rock bands can play between 60 and 100 songs at the most fairly well. As you learn theory, You will pick up songs faster and eventually will see the Big Picture, how they were built.

Playing two hours a Day - If you have taken advantage of Guitarweek and do something practice wise for two hours a day, In one Year, You should be hammering a song every couple of weeks and your "play by Ear" abilities should be really high. You would have sufficient teaching abilities in Two or less years (you should teach or arrange Guitar Clubs - you retain %80 of what you teach) and you would look cool in the Guitar shops too.  Remember that its like a job - the more you Like it and do it - the better you'll be (Jimmy Hendrix slept with his Guitar)

Playing 3 - 5 hours a Day - If you play three to Five hours per day, You are definitely are going to see the difference.  In one year or more, you will be able to audition for bands in your local area and be able to play about thirty songs. Guitar will be interfering all aspects of your life such as your Job, your Friends, Spouses, you'll be eating less food and you wont have much money, but you'll have some cool Guitar stuff. you'll get evicted for calling into work and you'll finally realize that vans are Efficient. This is the point when you totally throw yourself into the field of music and the rest is up to God.

Though if you play for that much, you will be an awesome guitar player in no time, it still takes time and practice. Here's some stuff to do on the Guitar and on Paper - realize that playing on paper is the same as playing on the Guitar. Do this stuff!

Would you answer this ad?: Wanted 'Guitarist in training', first two years unpaid, Must have money to invest and be willing to learn. Job starts three years after training and pays about $50 per night (heavy lifting and travel) Vans are a plus! (555) 123-4567

We suggest the Three hours per week practice plan - On paper or guitar.
