The pentatonic scales are used for solos in just about all music. This scales has only 5 Notes and they are derived from the MAJOR scale! Practice COPYING the scales on your blank worksheet until you can do it without Looking at the scales. The pentatonic's are easier to learn and are WIDELY used for the solos - so its a Must Learn!

Above are four of the 12 pentatonic scales, Like the Major scales--- It is the same pattern moved up or down the neck of the guitar.........below you can see that there are three pentatonic scales and each major scale.....this is very cool and demonstrates the mathematical link of the scales. In that key of "C", the major notes are E A and D. and oddly enough it contains the E A and D pentatonic scale........
So in the key of "C", you can use all three of these pentatonic scales.
Learning the scales is NOT hard - practice COPYING (on the scale worksheet) the two patterns of the pentatonic scale until you can copy the two patterns without looking at the Pentatonic scales, You must also link the two patterns together.
HERE ARE THE PATTERNS OF THE PENTATONIC

The two patterns shown are the most popular ones to learn - You play the white circles too, they are white only to separate the patterns: Notice that the pattern at the open string starts over at the12th fret - once you learn to tie these two patterns together and move them around, then you have almost mastered the pentatonic scale for all twelve keys.
