Choosing a Musical Instrument

If your child does not take music in school, don't worry, It does not mean that they are going to be bad in math and science. VH1's theory on Saving the Music is different than ours, Maybe its the kids that are already good in math and science that gravitate towards music and not the other way around.

There's really no way that you can tell if music makes you smarter by saying that the kids in music seem to do better. There's no way to rewind a kid and do it again, so they make an educated guess by looking at facts and figures. Below we attempt to convey the pros and cons of the different musical instruments - This by all means is not meant to offend anyone, This is only for the rest of the people that did not find "band" appealing ...

Saxophone:

  • Expensive
Bassoon:
  • You can brag that you have a bassoon
  • Probably hard to play
  • EXPENSIVE!
Most "wind" instruments are "Probably" hard to play and "percussion" instruments are probably more easier to play - By "easier to play" we mean easier to get pleasant sounds out of...

Some instruments have more benefits than others, the bassoon (No offense to bassoon players) is probably the worst instrument to try to learn because you are most likely learning something that will cease to exist after school, this is only because of the (10,000+) price and that it is more of a group instrument. Some instruments are geared towards group events where you would almost need the rest of the band, and then there are the instruments that are considered solo instruments or instruments that can be played by themselves (Guitar, Piano).

Not to pick on any instrument in particular, but the tuba would be an instrument that would fit better in a "group of players" rather than being a "solo" instrument. Its usually best not to push an instrument on your kid, If you have to hound them to practice then they are probably losing interest or feel that they can't play - To really learn an instrument you must really want to play it, you may want to talk to your kid to find out why they are losing interest ...
