Extensions

There is a Natural  Chord  progression that all of the Keys use, Below we show you the Natural Chord Progression in the Key of "C". All Keys have Only 7 basic chords, That's it, Just seven!, For the example we will start from the "C Major Chord" this shows you the extensions too. (7ths, 9ths, and 11ths)

Chord name---------------------Notes used

C major ------------------------- C E G

C major 7th--------------------- C E G + B (compare to E minor 13th)

C major 9th--------------------- C E G + D

C major 11th-------------------- C E G + F

C major 13th--(not really) ---- C E G + A

Looking at the C major 13th, You should notice that it uses the notes C E G A---- compare it to the A minor 7th below!!!!

A minor -------------------------- A C E

A minor 7th---------------------- A C E + G

A minor 9th---------------------- A C E + B

A minor 11th--------------------- A C E + D

A minor 13th--(not really)------ A C E + F

This time the A minor 13th is the same as F major 7th!!!!(They use the same notes)

F major---------------------------- F A C

F major 7th----------------------- F A C + E

F major 9th----------------------- F A C + G

F major 11th---------------------- F A C + B

F major 13th---(not really)------ F A C + D

Now the F major 13th uses the same notes as the D minor 7th!!!

D minor --------------------------- D F A

D minor 7th----------------------- D F A + C

D minor 9th----------------------- D F A + E

D minor 11th---------------------- D F A + G

D minor 13th ---(not really)----- D F A + B

Now the D minor 13th has the exact same notes as the B diminished 7th below!!!

B diminished ---------------------- B D F

B diminished 7th------------------ B D F + A

B diminished 9th------------------ B D F + C

B diminished 11th----------------- B D F + E

B diminished 13th--(not really)-- B D F + G

This time the B diminished chord progress naturally to the G major--- The G major 7th has the same notes as the B diminished 13th.

G major------------------------------ G B D

G major 7th------------------------- G B D + F

G major 9th------------------------- G B D + A

G major 11th------------------------ G B D + C

G major 13th--(not really again)-- G B D + E

The G major 13th uses the same notes as the E minor 7th!!!

E minor ------------------------------ E G B

E minor 7th-------------------------- E G B + D

E minor 9th-------------------------- E G B + F

E minor 11th------------------------- E G B + A

E minor 13th---(could be)---------- E G B + C

AT the top of the Page you should notice the C major 7th which uses the exact same notes as the E minor 13th. The 7ths and 9ths are the most commonly used Extensions - 11ths and the so-called 13ths are less common.
