We still stand behind our 28 chords theory (35 chords if you count power chords) so test your ability to calculate the chord by identifying the tones instead of going by the shape, or worse going by what someone else says it is...
This chord was found in an unmentioned magazine and they
identify it as a "C6"

When you look at the Tones C A E G - You can determine the actual chord,
What is it?
hint: It is NOT a C6 - Mouse over for
Answer >>>![]()
Why the above chord is publicly shown as a C6 when it is in fact a simpler chord, Technically if you go by how the 7th, 9th and 11ths are created then the C6 is the exact same as C13 - That is of course, if you look at the tones...
There are other chords that are derived from more basic chords, The key in identifying chords is writing the tones down and then rearranging them - You can't always have your guitar in your hands to study theory, its best even to set it down and use our worksheets...
Use our "Chord Worksheet" to you study chords, Use the blank area on the right side to write out the tones of the chord you are checking out...
