C.A.G.E.D
CAGED shows you how to play One chord in five different places. The five "Major chord Shapes", in the order that they tie together, just happen to spell CAGED - The first shape is "C" - The second shape is "A" - The third shape is "G" - the fourth shape is "E" - and the fifth shape is "D".
If we show you this in the Key of C - you are not playing C A G E and D major, You are playing five different "C major chords"
Below we show you 5(five) "C Major chords" using different shapes. You should remember that C Major uses the notes 'CEG' - Respectively, we have only showed the notes that make up the five shapes that tie together.

- Printable
Version - All five "C Majors" as shown above, next to each
other.
"Opens up in a New Window"
Remember also that these Five (5) shapes shown are used in "ALL 12 KEYS" - If you know these five shapes and know how to move them around, then you know every major chord.
Lets say you want to apply this lesson to "E Major" - Your first E major is at the open position so the next SHAPE would be the "D Major Shape", Not the "D Major Chord". Since "E Major" happens to be one of the CAGED shapes, the first shape you see would be the "E Major", thus instead of 'CAGED' - it would then be 'EDCAG' -
Do not forget that C.A.G.E.D refers to "ONE CHORD - 5 CHORD SHAPES"
Part Two - Same theory with the Minor Chords
