Catching Up II...
Key of Gb

The Key of Gb uses the notes Gb, Ab, Bb, Cb, Db, Eb, and F and is also known as the (Key of Eb minor), The term 'enharmonic' often refers to the alias name for this key (Key of F#), Any of the letters used (ABCDEFG) can be flat (Ab,Bb,Cb,Db,Eb,Fb,Gb) or sharp (A#,B#,C#,D#,E#,F#,G#), This however is one of the flat keys...

NOTE: take notice that this is the only key that uses 'Cb', Take double notice that 'Cb' is 'B'...

If you don't know any of the other keys then you may want to start with the key of C, Every key has an opening pattern and each one will look oddly different then the others...

Key of Gb...

There are about four 'box patterns' that we use for all twelve keys (when we can) and they will always interlock in the same order, These four patterns will be found in every key...

    * The 13th chord is most often named a 6th chord (Bb minor 6th = Bb minor 13th) the chord building structure indicates that a 6th chord, contrary to what others believe, should be named 13th. If the naming of this extension as a 6th is the proper way then why isn't there a Bb minor 8th, Bb minor 10th, and Bb minor 12th or Bb minor 14th... (See our 14th chords lesson)...

For more information on the 13th chords, check out our lesson on 6th chords and our lesson on Chord Building You are currently looking at the Key of Gb, the best keys to change to from here are the Key of B and the key of Db).
