   The "Key of C" uses the tones A, B, C, D, E, F, and G, This is an important key for the fact that it does not have any sharps or flats. If you are studying music then this is the first key you should learn, The key to learning all of the other 11 keys is to really learn this one...

   The key of "A minor" and the key of C are the exact same set of tones so you should more or less ignore the 'minor keys', The best way to learn is to break the the 'big pattern' into smaller ones, The very first pattern in the Key of C is the most popular pattern used...

   After you master the very first pattern then you can learn the second most popular pattern which is commonly called 'the minor scale', You should always pay attention to the 'root' tone of the key you are in so keep an eye on the 'C's...

   You should notice that you keep seeing different scale patterns but still see "Key of C", The 'major scale pattern' should be seen as one huge '6 string' by '12 fret' pattern, If you are going through our keys lessons then you should notice the same patterns over and over...

Compare the E minor 13th to the C major 7th at the very top

    * The 13th chord is most often named a 6th chord (E minor 6th = E minor 13th) the chord building structure indicates that a 6th chord, contrary to what others believe, should be named 13th. If the naming of this extension as a 6th is the proper way then why isn't there a E minor 8th, E minor 10th, and E minor 12th or E minor 14th... (See our 14th chords lesson)...
