If you really want to play complex chords then you should add tones from other keys to basic chords, or add chords from other keys. That is, of course, Ones that come from the key to the left or the key to the right. An example would be playing a D Major while you are in the key of C, or playing the Bb Major while you are in the Key of C.
Here is a chart of tones you can add to each Key that would be the same as playing the keys that are next to it. We call these pivot tones because they are tones that tie the keys together...

Essentially you are adding a flattened (b) seventh or a sharpened (#) fourth tone. You must also remember that E# is F and Cb is B. But in reality you are just playing basic chords from a key that is next to it, To get the jazz effect you simply need to use more than one key. There is no easy way to learn this, You could say that you Flatten the 5th and 7th of the key you are in to make it easier - You could also say that you Sharpen the 4th and 6th of the key you are in, Just remember that its the 4th and 7th tone that you are altering from the original key
The C major with a b7th (C E G Bb) is just a normal C Major
7th in the Key of F...
The C Major with a #4th (C E G F#) is just a
normal C Major 7th in the Key of G...
