Dominant Chords - Left Handed

In theory, most songs are played in one key. Some songs take advantage of the ability to change to another key, Jazz and Classical music are the styles of music that often do this. This is where learning the cycle of the keys comes in handy, The most pleasant sounding change is to change keys in 5ths....

An Example would be changing from the "Key of C" to the "Key of G" - when you do this, you are exchanging the "F" tone with "F#". Dominant 7th chords are derived from viewing a chord as a Shape rather than viewing it as a set of tones... This is obvious when you look at the "G7" that is in both the "Key of C" and the "Key of G".

Essentially what you are doing is adding one tone to the standard 7 tone scale (major scale). So which shape do you use? - Both is the answer to that, the key to that riddle is the word Shape. If you go by the Shape rather than the tones that you are using then you will run into this seemingly problem but in fact you are stretching out to a relative key...

Remember that the chord Shapes for the major and minor chords are used over and over. The chords shown above and below are G Shape chords, If you look at one of the other major chords for either chord above you will see that they use both Shapes...

The tones are lined up where the beginning is 1 (I.) and the ending is 7 (VII.) - The major chords are on the 1st, 4th and 5th tones / the top Shape above is used on the 5th tone and the bottom Shape is used on the 1st and 4th tones...
