Catching Up II...
Lesson Plan VII

Now you will Become familiar with the third Pattern of the three that make up the Major Scale. Print out a Long Blank Worksheet and Copy the pattern below over and over until you can do it without looking, Copy This on different starting positions.

The (K) referenced is the KEYNOTE, this pattern is the easiest to move around and identify because the very first note of this pattern is the Naming Note - For instance, If you start this pattern out on the 5th Fret, that would be the Key of A -

Our example Below shows the First and Second pattern you learned as well - Just focus on The pattern above and then later you can learn to copy all three patterns without looking and tie them together. By Learning these patterns on Paper - you are learning them in your head, Knowing them in your head is Important

Once you learn all three of the Patterns of the Major Scale on Paper, it should be easy to play them on the guitar - Your fingers will still have to get used to playing up and down the scale, but your mind will know where to put the fingers.

The Third Pattern of the Major Scale is Shown in Blue

On this pattern you should learn that only Two of the notes on the Fourth smallest string (G) need to be played - If you play all the notes in one of the Three patterns we have shown, you should notice that a Note is Duplicated (This is due to the Tuning of the guitar, From big string to little string - you fret the fifth fret and tune the next smallest string to that tone - EXCEPT for the G string to the B string - You fret the Fourth string at the 4th fret and match the next smallest string to that tone)

DON'T try to Learn the notes as you play them, The Pattern is all you need to see at this point.

You should Know this lesson pretty well before you go onto (Lesson Plan VIII coming soon)
