Lesson Plan VI

Now you will Become familiar with the second Pattern of the three that are produced by the Major Scales, The Pattern in its entirety is From the Open strings to the 12th fret - In other word, the pattern starts over at 12 frets - Later Lesson Plans will be for the Pentatonic Scales which are famous for solos, especially in the Blues style. This pattern is also Known as the "Minor Scale" (Aeolian Mode) -

Print out a Long Blank Worksheet and Copy the pattern below over and over until you can do it without looking, Copy This on different starting positions.

This pattern spans Six Frets and can be started from any position or starting point -

Our example Below shows the First pattern you learned as well - Just focus on The pattern above and then later you can learn to copy both patterns and tie them together. By Learning these patterns on Paper - you are learning them in your head, Knowing them in your head is Important

In first part of the example, We started the First vertical row at the 3rd fret

In second part of the example, We started the First vertical row at the Fifth Fret.
This diagram is from our Lesson on Major scales, all of the Dots are notes for that Key - some are Solid Dots and some are not, this is just to separate the Patterns visually.

Again, The First pattern you learned in Lesson Plan III is shown as well, You can see how the second pattern intertwines with the first one - The Complete pattern is 12 frets long and This pattern combined with the first one tallies up to NINE(9) frets - Once you've mastered all three patterns and can tie them all together, the rest is just moving them around for 12 Keys, We aren't trying to teach you the Scales or Keys now - Just the Pattern........

Once you learn to copy out the patterns on paper - You can try to play them on your guitar, start by just going up and down the pattern. If you can print them out on paper with a pen, then you will be able to fumble around them on the guitar - DONT try to Learn the notes as you play them, The Pattern is all you need to see at this point.

You should Know this lesson pretty well before you go onto (Lesson Plan VII)
