Catching Up II...
Lesson Plan II.

Objective: Learn the natural tone order used in music - The objective is to learn how to rearrange tones in the natural order that chords use, Only the natural notes are used and sharps and flats are not relevant... This mainly uses the EGBDF and FACE that kids learned in school only they are both combined to make on large pattern, The skills learned here will come in handy when constructing chords.

(1) Get a Plain Piece of Paper.
(2) Write out continuously:

EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDF..

The students paper should look like this:

EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC
EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC
EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC
EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC
EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC
EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC
EGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFACEGBDFAC...

You should also be able to fill this out starting from any of the seven tones...

f a c e g b d
a c e g b d f
c e g b d f a
e g b d f a c
g b d f a c e
b d f a c e g
d f a c e g b

The ending goal is for the student to have the ability start from any 'letter' and fill in the next two, When doing three letter patterns you should think of (1st, 3rd, 5th) - Practicing seven letter patterns will match up with (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th) which will be used when constructing extended chords.

By all means do not skip this lesson before going on to the next activity, This goes for you adults too - Thinking that this activity is something you can skip over is like trying to jump before you can hop - With all that said you can go onto (Lesson Plan III) when this is complete.
